Rusty Spinner

This is a universal fly that should cover you for any mayfly spinner fall that you come across. When spinners fall they lose coloration which is why the rusty color proves itself as close comparison to the naturals. For variations try yellow or white foam for a wingcase which will be easier to spot on the water. Also, try a yellow dubbing ball near the tail to create a simulated egg sack.

Suggested Materials:
Hook - Tiemco TMC101 size 12-18
Tail - Microfibbets
Body - Rusty color dry fly dubbing
Wing Case - Black/Yellow/White Razor Foam
Wing - White poly yarn with DNA or other flash material mixed in

Step 1

Tie in thread and create dubbing ball at hook bend

Step 2

Tie in microfibbets against dubbing ball and apply pressure to force microfibbets to splay apart. Advance thread towards thorax and clip excess microfibbets

Step 3

Return thread to hook bend and dub body up to mid-thorax area

Step 4

Tie in foam wing case (use yellow foam for a more hi-vis fly)

Step 5

Fold poly yarn/flash over thread and tie in using figure 8 thread wraps

Step 6

Fold wing case over and tie in place. Build thread-head and whip finish. Pull wings up towards ceiling and trim wings to size
