Suggested Materials:

Hook.....Tiemco TMC 100 (12-14)
Thread.....Danville 6/0 (Brown)\
Tail.....Clear Nylon Tailing Fibers
Body.....Superfine Dubbing (Hendrickson Pink)
Wing.....Elk Hair (Natural)

Some tie the wings with deer hair instead of elk. Both work. The elk hair does not spin as easy as deer hair which is a plus in this application. Although the elk hair, being less hollow, creates more bulk and is less buoyant.
I use the elk hair on larger flies and the deer hair on smaller flies that need to have a small body.

Step 1

Make a small thread ball at bend of hook

Step 2

Hold microfibbets at an angle against the thread ball and wrap thread over the material, applying good pressure to splay the tails against the ball. Wrap forward amd clip excess material

Step 3

Advance the thread to the thorax area, about 1/3rd shank from the hook eye. Clean and stack the elk hair and hold it with the tips pointing toward the hook eye. Hold about 1 shanks length over the thorax and bind with thread. Work the thread toward tail with good pressure while still holding elk hair butts

**Don't let go of elk hair butts! Hands removed here for photo purposes**

Step 4

Cut the butts at an angle and wrap with thread

Step 5

Work back toward tail and apply dubbing toward the wing

Step 6 & 7

Work your dubbing under the wing to the front of the fly. Dubbing up against the wing will push it to an upright position. Then figure 8 under and in back of the wing to fill in the thorax with dubbing

Now just dub forward and create a thread head. Whip finish and cement
