The Lamoille River Anglers Association is dedicated to the preservation, conservation and restoration of the Lamoille River and its tributaries for the benefit of wild fish, wildlife and the community.
Hi Fellow Anglers,
With the conclusion of another fabulous trout season, the Lamoille River Anglers Association is preparing for a busy 2008 season. We want to bring everyone up to date with the club and let you know about some future projects and concerns. Should be a busy winter for L.R.A.A. and we hope that every member will get involved.
We are still meeting once a month at the Town and Country Resort in Stowe. Meetings are normally scheduled for the last Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm unless notified of a change of plans. Our club is a grassroots organization that is dedicated to protecting, conserving, and restoring the Lamoille Watershed. We need your help with some very pressing issues we currently are facing.
During the 2007 trout season a non-native algae species was discovered in our rivers that could have a very adverse impact upon our trout waters. Didymosphenia geminata is a non-native species that is attacking our stream bottoms and has the potential to wipe out fish, plant, and invertebrate habitat. Currently there is not a solution or a cure for Didymo (rocksnot). The L.R.A.A. is proactively working to educate all who use our waterways about the very real threat of Didymo, how to prevent its spread, and its potential impact.
The L.R.A.A. has been posting educational signs about Didymo along the banks of the Lamoille at various fishing accesses. There is a very useful web site www.biosecurity.govt.nz/didymo that is helpful in understanding what Didymo is and how to prevent its spread. It is up to anglers to take the lead in combating Didymo and to educate the various users of our waterways of the very real threat it poses.
Additional agenda items for the L.R.A.A. for 2008 will involve planning spring tree plantings with the Lamoille County Conservation District and Nature Center, a river clean-up, a fund raiser for 2008, and an in stream habitat improvement project. Whether you would like to get involved with one of our many projects or simply support the club with your annual dues, we need your help.
Through membership drives and fund raisers, The L.R.A.A. is able to actively work to protect, conserve, and restore the Lamoille Watershed. Attached is our 2008 membership form and with your tax-deductible contribution you can make a real difference. Every dollar we raise goes right back into restoring the Lamoille River. Please send complete forms to L.R.A.A., 233 Mill St. Jeffersonville, VT 05464. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.
Sincerely,
Lamoille River Anglers Association
